Relationship Tropes

Recurring patterns in how fictional people connect, clash, care, and change together.

At a glance

This library uses relationship tropes as a broad browsing term for patterns between characters. Those relationships may be romantic, platonic, or familial. Friends to lovers describes a romantic change; found family describes a bond that need not involve romance at all.

In reader conversations — invented example

“The person who stays through the hospital visit is her oldest friend. That scene matters even though they never become a couple.”

Meet Winn and Lark.

Winn can feel everyone’s emotions. Lark gives her nothing. On a Texas ranch with monsters beneath the house, that silence might be the most dangerous thing she’s found.
